Cable Size Choice Guide

  • How To Use The Cable Chart
    What is Your DC Amp Requirement?
    Locate the current flow in amp of your circuit along the top of the chart.
    What Type of Circuit Type Do You Have?
    Select the correct circuit type. Examples of ( Non Critical ) and ( Critical ) circuits are below. There are many more examples but these are a few that you would find in RV, Marine and Solar applications.
    A) Examples of Critical

    —>Essential Operational Electronics

    B) Examples of Non Critical
    —>General Lighting
    —>General Appliances
    —>Personal Electronics
    —>Pumps
  • Determine Your Cable Length Needed
    Find the correct cable length range. Please note that the cable length is total length to the application multiplied times 2. This means if you cable length to your application is 10ft then you will look at a the 20ft options. This is because the positive is 10ft and the negative is 10ft for a total length of 20ft.
  • Find Your Correct Cable Size
    Intersect the DC Amps needed with the total cable length range determined from last step to identify the correct color code.
  • Cable Conversion Table
    Match the color code from step 4 to the cable chart to find the cable size and specifications.

1. Sometimes gauges are represented as follow (0000 or 4/0). AWG stands for American Wire Gauges. Metric Wire Size is closest equivalent to AWG wire size
2. Cross Section or Diameter Squared is the area of the wire when cut flat square across the wire. The formula is Pi*r2
3. Measurements of Diameter and Cross Section of cable of cable does not include insulation.
